Replacing a Missing Transmitter (FOB)
I thought I'd add my
experience here which was done on a 2007 Cadillac STS.
This is one way that I found
to get a missing transmitter out of the car’s computer. This is a 30+ minute
process.
Replacing a missing FOB.
NOTE: Do not put any of the
remote transmitter where the car can detected it.
- The procedure will require
three, ten minute cycles to complete the matching process.
- The vehicle must be off.
- Insert the vehicle key
into the key lock cylinder located on the driver’s door.
- Turn the key to the unlock position five times within
five seconds.
- The
DIC message will display OFF/ACC TO LEARN.
- Press
the Acc. button (ignition switch).
- The
DIC will read WAIT 10 MINUTES and will count down to zero, one minute at a
time.
- The
DIC will display OFF/ACC TO LEARN again.
- Press
the Acc. button (ignition switch) again.
- The
DIC will again read WAIT 10 MINUTES and will count down to zero, one
minute at a time.
- The
DIC will display OFF/ACC TO LEARN again.
- Press
the Acc. button (ignition switch) again.
- The
DIC will again read WAIT 10 MINUTES and will count down to zero, one
minute at a time.
- Press
the Acc. Button (ignition switch) again.
- A
beep will sound and the DIC will read READY FOR FOB 1. At this time, all previously
known transmitters have been erased.
- Place the transmitter into
the transmitter pocket with the transmitter buttons facing the front of
the vehicle. The transmitter pocket is inside the center console storage
area located between the driver and front passenger seats.
- Once
the transmitter is recognized and programmed, a beep will sound and the DIC
will display READY FOR FOB 2.
- Repeat
step 15 until all transmitters have been programmed
- Press
the Acc. button (ignition switch) to exit the program.
- Press
the unlock button twice on each transmitter to initialize it.
Although this
does replace a missing transmitter, if the key is also missing, it could be
used to program a transmitter or delete the existing ones. If you have a
missing key, I suggest that you take further action to get it out of the
picture as well.
